Talks on transfer of Baku train station to Balajari settlement

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The question of transfer the Baku railway terminal from the centre of the capital of Azerbaijan has not been resolved yet.

Today in Baku Jahangir Gojayev, head of the International Affairs & Information of the State Committee for Construction & Architecture, has stated that negotiations with the Ministry of Transport on transfer of the railway terminal to the dormitory suburb Balajari from the centre of Baku (Jafar Jabbarli Square near The 28 May metro station) is still under way.

"Negotiations are ongoing, and the exact date of their completion has not been fixed, Gojayev said.

According to Gojayev, the reason for the transfer is aspiration to reduce the density of buildings in the centre of Baku.

Transfer of the terminal to the suburb will also enable to move stations Baku-Pochtovaya (Mail) and Baku-Tovarnaya (Commodity) and free up about a third of the square of the capitals centre. The Baku terminal was located originally in Balajari settlement and it was the first railway station of Baku, and there still remained the terminal of the XIX century.
